These are fascinating geologic structures. They sort of remind of the badlands out west, but much greener. I can't think of any similar formations here in Connecticut.
ReplyDeleteEd, I tried, without much luck, to get some information on the geologic processes that formed these "chimneys" but didn't come up with much beyond vague talk of ancient inland seas and limestone.I thought about the west too, particularly of pictures I have seen of rock formations referred to as "pipes." At any rate, this sort of thing is not very common in the east, I think.
