Mertensia virginica
The Virginia Bluebell is native to moist woodland in the eastern United States. This specimen was growing along the banks of the Shenandoah River where the woods come right to the water's edge.
“Place conspires with the artist. We are surrounded by our own story, we live and move in it. It is through place that we put out roots.” - Eudora Welty
