Summer has advanced so rapidly in central Virginia this year that it seems more like late August than late July. Leaves torn from the trees by recent storms lie scattered on the ground, previewing the colorful decay that in time will announce the end of a long, hot summer.
Curious, that was the very thing I was thinking this morning as I encountered a trail full of scattered leaves.
